Randwick City Council is currently led by Greens mayor Phillipa Veitch, who is up for re-election as a councillor this term.
Covering the city’s south-east, there are five wards with three councillors in each.
There is currently an equal split between Liberal and Labor (both parties have five seats), while the Greens hold four seats and there is one independent.
The Sydney Morning Herald sent questions to each of the 46 candidates up for election at Randwick City Council about why they are running and what they want to accomplish if they are elected. Of those, 12 responded.
Their responses have been lightly edited for clarity.
