Lane Cove Council: What your candidates said

Lane Cove Council is one of the several council areas across Sydney with no Liberal presence after the party missed the NSW Electoral Commission’s cut-off for nominations.

Liberal Scott Bennison – who lost preselection before the fiasco earlier this year – has been the mayor since 2019. After losing the nomination, he announced he would run as an independent, and hence will be on the ballot.

The Sydney Morning Herald sent questions to each of the 30 candidates up for election at Lane Cove Council about why they are running and what they want to accomplish if they are elected. Of those, 17 responded.

Their responses have been lightly edited for clarity.

We asked candidates where they stood on key policy issues they’re likely to vote on while in office, and what they thought about the current state of council services. Click the below buttons to see the results.
