Covering a highly diverse narrow strip of western Sydney from Lidcombe to Girraween, Cumberland City Council will see residents choose 15 councillors for the next four years.
The council is dominated by Labor, which holds eight seats. Two are held by Liberal-aligned independents, other independents hold two more, and the council is rounded out by three members of Our Local Community.
The Sydney Morning Herald sent questions to each of the 71 candidates up for election at Cumberland City Council about why they are running and what they want to accomplish if they are elected. Of those, 17 responded.
Their responses have been lightly edited for clarity.
