Mystery woman in Latrell Mitchell white substance photo speaks

By Riley Walter

The woman pictured in a controversial photograph of South Sydney Rabbitohs star Latrell Mitchell appearing to lean over a table with a white substance on it says there is “no shame” in having a “bit of fun” when she goes out.

Mitchell has been sent into hiding this week as the NRL’s integrity unit investigates the image, which was circulated online after being offered for sale to media outlets.

Amy Brown was pictured in the controversial photograph of South Sydney Rabbitohs star Latrell Mitchell. There is no suggestion of wrongdoing by either.

On Wednesday, Amy Brown outed herself as the mystery woman in the photograph that emerged on Monday.

The veracity of the photo, when it was taken and the context surrounding it are questions the integrity unit is seeking answers to. The nature of the white substance is not known and there is no suggestion that it is an illicit drug.

Brown said she was not aware of the photograph’s existence until after it was claimed to have been taken.

“Yeah I like to have a bit of fun … when I go out … no shame in that,” Brown wrote on Facebook.

Brown, who is not accused of any wrongdoing, said she was not aware the photograph was being taken and denied sharing it.

“I was shown at the football on Sunday,” she said.

“Didn’t even know that picture existed until then.”

The integrity unit asked Mitchell, who is currently sidelined with a foot injury, to provide his version of events on Tuesday.

The Rabbitohs said they had learned of the photo after Mitchell travelled to Central West NSW for coaching clinic at Dubbo on the weekend.

The controversy has sparked a bitter blame game between Dubbo locals on social media. Several people have been accused of sharing the photograph, claimed in online posts to have been taken in the town. All have denied the accusations.

Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga said it was a timely reminder to all players about being mindful of the company they keep.

“Obviously the evidence that’s been portrayed, it’s alleged, [appears] incriminating,” Meninga told SEN’s The Jimmy Smith Show.

“You’re bringing the game into disrepute by putting yourself into that situation.

“This fella who has allegedly taken this photo of Latrell with white powder, he’s not a mate. He’s not a friend, he’s a person trying to make money out of this.”

Attempts to reach Mitchell’s management have been unsuccessful.

The NRL integrity unit does not intend to speak to Brown as part of its investigation.
