That’s all for today, folks!

Thanks for joining us for day six of the trade period, which featured a four-club mega deal and plenty of players on the move.

The deal to get Luke Jackson from Melbourne to the Dockers has been done, which involved fellow Demon Toby Bedford becoming a Giant.

Carlton’s Will Setterfield is now a Bomber and Izak Rankine is on the move from Gold Coast to Adelaide.

And Jason Horne-Francis is heading to Port Adelaide in a four-club mega deal, which will also send Junior Rioli to the Power. GWS have traded up as part of that deal, with the view that their sights are on top-10 draft prospect Aaron Cadman.

Plus, Greater Western Sydney senior assistant coach Mark McVeigh has chosen to step away from the Giants after missing out on senior coaching job.

Join us again tomorrow as our trade blog continues with rolling coverage, keeping you updated with all the ins and outs during the last two days of the trade period.

The net effect of the four-club mega deal:

GWS get pick one.

North Melbourne get picks two, three and Port Adelaide’s future first round.

West Coast get picks eight and 12.

Port Adelaide get Jason Horne-Francis, Junior Rioli and give up their future first, second and third round picks. But the Power get back a future second-round pick tied to Collingwood, and a future third-round pick tied to Fremantle.

Setterfield to become a Bomber

By Michael Gleeson and Jake Niall

Carlton’s Will Setterfield will become a Bomber.

A deal is imminent, most likely for a future fourth-round pick but could be a further late pick.

It’s being finalised now.

The likelihood is this means the Blues will hang onto Paddy Dow.

McVeigh opts not to stay

Greater Western Sydney senior assistant coach Mark McVeigh has chosen to step away from the Giants after missing out on senior coaching job.

McVeigh was the Giants’ interim coach this year, leading the club from round 10 after Leon Cameron stepped away, and threw his hat in the ring to be the permanent replacement, but was beaten by former Richmond assistant coach Adam Kingsley.

GWS general manager of football Jason McCartney wished McVeigh the best and thanked him for his significant contribution to the club.

“Mark has been a wonderful coach at our football club over a long period of time,” McCartney said in a statement on Monday.

“He’s a person of great honesty and integrity and while we would have loved him to stay, the time is right for him to move on.

“We congratulate him on everything he has achieved so far in his coaching career and wish Mark and his family all the best for the future. He’ll always be part of building the Giants.”

Kingsley has added Brett Montgomery – the pair were premiership teammates at Port Adelaide in 2004 – to his coaching panel for 2023.
