A 16-year-old boy has died after being pulled from the water at the Hawkesbury River, the latest death following a string of drownings.
Just after 12.20pm on Monday, emergency services were called to the Hawkesbury River near Tizzana Road, Sackville, after reports a teenager was unresponsive after being pulled from the river.
Members of the public commenced CPR, before the arrival of paramedics.
The boy was stabilised and airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition, but he died on Tuesday.
Police are conducting inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
To January 25, there had been 58 drowning deaths nationally this summer. There were 45 drowning deaths recorded at the same time last year.
The majority of deaths occurred in coastal areas, with rivers and lakes the second most common, according to data from the Royal Life Saving summer drowning toll.
