COMPASS: A PEACE OF NOURISHMENT ★★★★
6.30pm, ABC
Rebecca Gibney lends an empathetic ear to Kylie van der Veer, whose recovery from an eating disorder is the subject of this enlightening two-part documentary. This is an intimate encounter with one woman's experience and the effect on her partner, filmmaker Annie Flynn, who produced the series. It is bound to resonate with others who, like Kylie, look back and wonder why. Her quest for answers takes her to the Butterfly Foundation, to Indonesia and the US.
JEWISH GIs OF WORLD WAR II ★★★½
5.30pm, SBS
The conclusion of this documentary about American Jews who enlisted to fight against the Nazis offers great hope for humanity. Yet it doesn't take away the bitter taste of the atrocities of the Holocaust (shown in graphic archival footage), nor the unfathomable bigotry from their own side. These men and women revisit memories that many have buried for decades. They also share stories of comradeship and extraordinary heroism from within the bowels of hell.
HOUSE RULES ★★½
7.30pm, Seven
Hopefully the unhappy campers on the bottom of the leaderboard have packed up their tent before judge and gardening guru Jamie Durie inspects the lawns in what may be a more emotionally fraught decider than the federal election. Yes, the "Judgment Day Reveals" are in full swing. There'll be tears before teatime as someone's concept of avant-garde is another's idea of an aesthetic nightmare.
