British pop star Jessie J has revealed an early-stage breast cancer diagnosis in a candid video on social media.
The 37-year-old Price Tag singer, whose real name is Jessica Ellen Cornish, said she was holding on to the word “early”.
“I just wanted to be open and share it,” the singer said in her Instagram post.
“One, because, selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I’m not processing it because I’m working so hard. I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I’m an open book.
“It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse – that’s the bit that kills me.”
The singer said it was “a weird situation” but disclosed she would be having surgery soon after the Summertime Ball (a musical festival in London) on June 15.

“It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job,” she joked.
“I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive tits and more music.”
Born in 1988, Jessie J went to Colins Performing Arts School and was cast in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Whistle Down the Wind when she was 11.
She was a judge on The Voice Australia for two seasons in 2015 and 2016, alongside the Madden brothers, Ricky Martin, Delta Goodrem and Ronan Keating.
The Grammy award-winning singer also recorded music for the movie Pitch Perfect 2 and performed in the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics.
Fellow artists and celebrities wrote supportive comments under Jessie J’s social media post.
“You’re literally my favourite person and I’m praying for you, you’ve got this,” British singer Rita Ora wrote.
“Sending you so much love,” former Little Mix member Leigh-Anne Pinnock posted.
