John Farnham makes rare public appearance since cancer surgery
By Helen Pitt
Singer John Farnham has made a rare appearance since his cancer surgery in a wedding ceremony in Melbourne for his son Rob and new wife Melissa.
In 2022 Farnham, 74, had a tumour removed from his mouth during a 12-hour surgical procedure on his jaw, and his public appearances have been rare since then.
His son Rob, also a singer and actor, posted photos with his father and family to social media on Sunday night, believed to be the first since his surgery for throat cancer in August, 2022.
“Shared the happiest moment with my favourite person in the universe and she said ‘I do’,” Rob Farnham wrote on social media.
“Melissa, my life is forever better that you’re a part of it. You looked radiant, beautiful and elegant. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us, and I’m truly honoured to have you by my side as my wife for life.”
Farnham appears in family photos along with his wife Jill and other son James at the nuptials. The couple is believed to have married earlier this year, but celebrated the ceremony at the weekend.
Rob, 44, is the eldest of Farnham’s two sons, and appears in the documentary about his father, Finding The Voice, released last year.
The film, made while Farnham was in recovery, became a box office hit, raking in $4.5 million, making it the highest-grossing Australian documentary of all time.
Farnham is understood to be working on an autobiography.
Farnham, who had stints in rehabilitation, including eight weeks of radiation treatment, and further surgeries, was declared cancer-free last year.
