New fee to access Cradle Mountain

Starting on November 15, a new $15 fee will apply to visitors aged 18 and over who use the shuttle bus service at Cradle Mountain, with no option to use private cars. The decision has drawn criticism, particularly from Labor's parks spokesperson Sarah Lovell, who views it as a setback in terms of accessibility. The shuttle bus was initially introduced as a free service to both protect the environment and provide safe access to Dove Lake.Premier Jeremy Rockliff stated that the generated funds will be directed towards enhancing Tasmania's park infrastructure.Cradle Mountain sees over 300,000 visitors annually.
