Teen driver caught speeding just days after getting his licence

A youth had had his driver’s licence for less than three weeks when he was pulled over for allegedly driving nearly 60km/h over the speed limit.

The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

A TEENAGE motorist will face court after being caught by police driving almost 60km/h over the speed limit, several days after getting his driver’s license.

Tasmania Police Senior Constable Tammi Lambert said the 17-year-old P-plate driver had his vehicle clamped after being detected travelling at 58km/h over the speed limit on Bridport Rd in the state’s North on Saturday.

The driver had held his licence for just 19 days at the time of this offence and now faces a period of disqualification and up to $1500 in fines, Snr Constable Lambert said.

“To see someone so inexperienced choose to drive this way, is disappointing given the significant risk that he not only placed himself under, but his passenger and all other road users,” she said.

“Speeding is a well-known risk factor in serious and fatal road crashes.

“Tasmania Police is always working hard with the community to educate drivers of the

risks created by excessive speed.”
