A P-PLATER caught driving 55kmh above the speed limit on the East Tamar highway on Saturday night has had her car clamped and will appear in court.
Police on mobile patrol detected a grey SUV travelling 145kmh on the highway about 9.30pm on Saturday.
Senior Constable Rob Shepherd said the vehicle was being driven by an 18-year-old first year provisional license holder from Launceston.
As a first year provisional license holder the driver was restricted to a maximum speed of 90km/h in the 100km/h zone.
“It’s disheartening that some drivers continue to disregard the road rules and police
road safety messages and put their lives and the lives of others at risk through high
range speeding”, Snr Const. Shepherd said.
The woman had her vehicle clamped for 28 days and will appear before the court at a later date.
