THERE have been just two complaints of racism made against Tasmania Police in the last three-and-a-half years, new figures show.

A response to a Right to Information request showed both complaints were dismissed after investigation.

The first complaint was made in October 2018 following a person being served with a family violence prevention order.

“[The] Complainant alleged racial discrimination resulting in psychological intimidation, the documents showed.

“Investigations by Professional Standards Officers revealed the complaint may have

been factually incorrect and not made in good faith by the complainant.”

The matter was dismissed.

The second complaint was from an assault victims.

“[The] complainant alleges harassment, racism and unprofessional behaviour when

reporting the assault to Tasmania Police,” the document said.

“The matter dismissed as no indication or evidence that police had acted inappropriately.”

That complaint was also dismissed.

Tasmania Police figures reveal that there have been a total of 12 complaints made against police since March 1 2018, plus two “internally raised matters”.
