Sources have told the Herald Sun a report was made to Stawell police about a possible sighting of Barbaro’s white 2009 Toyota Hiace van.

A local man is understood to have seen and noted the number plate last week while driving in Stawell’s main street.

He saw media reports on Friday evening about the vehicle belonging to the wanted fugitive and logged the report with police the next day.

Stawell has a population of approximately 6000 people in the state’s north west and is located just off the Western Highway.

Recently released from jail, Barabo was facing other charges when he vanished amid the police probe into his girlfriend’s brutal murder.
