POLICE have slammed the actions of a motorcyclist who rode at speed through the blocked-off scene of a fatal crash on the Bass Highway, narrowly missing emergency services workers.
Inspector Steve Jones said the February 13 incident near Sassafras put the lives of police officers, paramedics and firefighters at risk.
“There was a road closure in place to allow for emergency services to respond to what was sadly a fatal car crash,” he said.
“The rider of the motorcycle proceeded through the road closure, accelerated past police officers who were indicating for it to stop and wove its way through the crash scene, nearly losing traction and narrowly missing everyone present.
“This serious and thoughtless incident put our first responders in extreme danger.”
As police appealed for information on the incident, 25 motorists were nabbed in two hours speeding through roadworks on the Midland Highway.
Constable Chris Jackson of Campbell Town Police said the majority of offences were detected within metres of road workers.
Anyone with information on the motorbike is asked to contact Tasmania Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.
