MAN CHARGED WITH CAR THEFT AFTER LATE-NIGHT ARREST
A MAN has been charged with stealing a vehicle and driving under the influence after a dramatic arrest on Sandy Bay Rd, Sandy Bay last night.
Around 9.30pm police observed a red Ford Escape SUV being driven erratically near the intersection of Gladstone St and Sandy Bay Rd, Hobart.
The vehicle was then intercepted at the intersection of Byron St and Sandy Bay Rd where it is alleged the driver then reversed and collided with the front of the police vehicle which was stationary behind the Ford Escape.
Nobody was injured as a result of the crash.
The driver, a 37-year-old Ellendale man who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was then taken into custody by police.
The man was then taken to the Hobart Police Station where he was charged with motor vehicle stealing and numerous driving offences including drive a motor vehicle while exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit.
He has been since been bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrate’s Court in May.
Inquiries by Hobart Police have confirmed that the car had just been stolen from an address in Hobart which was later observed by police.
