DRAMATIC vision has emerged of the arrest of a man brandishing a large knife at Montrose this morning.
In the video, at least six police officers with guns drawn are seen shouting at the man to drop the weapon, but he refuses.
The armed man, wearing dark trousers, a blue jumper and a cap, appears to unsuccessfully try and get into a blue vehicle before walking towards an unmarked police car.
The police vehicle reverses into the man at low speed, and tries to strike the man again, but he moves out of the way.
The armed man then appears to use the knife to strike the driver’s side window of the police vehicle.
He again ignores warnings to drop his weapon and charges at police, before again being struck by the unmarked police car.
On his knees and with the police surrounding him, the man eventually drops the knife on the ground and police swarm to arrest him.
In a statement, police said a 20-year-old Berriedale man was in custody after an alleged armed robbery at a pharmacy.
Police were called to the Guardian Pharmacy in Main Rd, Montrose about 9.05am on Wednesday morning after a man allegedly demanded property.
Police said as the man was leaving the scene, he allegedly produced a knife.
The man was not injured during the incident but two police officers were and are receiving medical treatment.
Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
Tasmania Police’s Professional Standards unit has been advised and will review the circumstances of the incident.
