HUON Valley woman Melissa Oates will continue living at home on bail while she awaits court proceedings following the road death of her boyfriend.

Jari Wise, 26, died in the early hours of February 29 after he was struck by a car as he walked along Wilmot Road, Huonville.

His girlfriend Melissa Oates, 34, has not yet entered a plea to four counts of breaching a family violence order, two counts of common assault and one count of injuring property.

Ms Oates, who has not been charged with causing Mr Wise’s death, was bailed in an out-of-hours court hearing on March 1 and returned to the Hobart Magistrates Court on Tuesday for a plea hearing.

But the matter was adjourned until April 30 and Ms Oates’ bail was continued. The families of both Ms Oates and Mr Wise were present at court on Tuesday.

Mr Wise’s mother Faith Tkalac, posting on social media, said she had “no feeling of resolve” after the court hearing.

She said she and the rest of Mr Wise’s family had “expressed some anger” towards Ms Oates at court.

On the day of Mr Wise’s death, police said Ms Oates had collided with Mr Wise.

The Lucaston woman was arrested at the scene and detained in custody overnight before she was granted bail.
