A 31-year-old Ulverstone man – returning from Victoria – has been arrested for numerous COVID-19 quarantine breaches.
The man arrived earlier today on the Spirit of Tasmania where he was sent to 14 days hotel Quarantine in Devonport.
Police allege the man caused several disturbances at the Devonport Hotel including smoking inside, abusing staff and continually leaving his room.
The man was arrested and bailed to remain at the hotel for the full 14 days before he was again arrested for further breaches.
He will appear in court at 7pm tonight.
The man faces a number of charges including drug possession, driving unlicensed, failing to comply with the lawful direction of an emergency management worker and breaching police bail.
Sergeant James Scicluna from Tasmania Police said the man did not pose a risk to the general public.
“Since March of this year, the vast majority of people have done the right thing and with the reopening of our borders.
“It is crucial that people who are required to isolate at either home or government facilities continue to abide by these measures.”
This marks the second incident at a Devonport quarantine hotel in the last five days.
On Friday police were called to the Sunrise Devonport hotel after reports a ‘suspicious drug package’ was intercepted by hotel staff.
A packet of cigarettes had been delivered for a hotel guest and inside the packet were cigarettes and a small quantity of marijuana, according to Tasmania police.
The package was confiscated.
