A GERMAN tourist has formally denied causing the death of a Huon Valley man by negligent driving in his motorhome.

Freidrich Kurt Burkhardt, 66, appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Tuesday when he pleaded not guilty to the singular charge.

The fatal crash at Dover on January 27 resulted in the death of a 59-year-old man when his Toyota Aurion and Mr Burkhardt’s Fiat motorhome collided head-on, the Mercury has previously reported.

Mr Burkhardt was ordered to surrender his passport after the crash. Mr Burkhardt, who is on bail, was assisted by an interpreter as he entered his plea before Magistrate Reg Marron.

The Crown successfully argued the matter be adjourned until March 5.

The name of the victim was not released by the court yesterday.

It was previously reported that Mr Burkhardt was treated at the Huon Highway crash scene by paramedics and transported to hospital.
