Former Tasmanian Liberal MP Adam Richard Brooks will plead guilty to unlawfully possessing a handgun and ammunition, a court has been told.
The former Braddon MP did not appear before Redcliffe Magistrates Court when his matter was briefly mentioned on Thursday morning.
Mr Brooks, 45, is facing a raft of charges that include unlawfully possessing a category H weapon, unauthorised possession of an explosive and multiple counts of possessing tainted property.
He is also charged with breaching bail.
Police allege in court documents that Mr Brooks had a handgun and ammunition in his possession when officers searched an address in Redcliffe, north of Brisbane, in May.
Mr Brooks is also alleged to have possessed multiple drivers licences, a fake police badge, credit cards and USB sticks.
On Thursday, his lawyer Brendan Beavon said a brief of evidence was being sought on the breach of bail and tainted property charges for listing on a future date.
He indicated Mr Brooks would plead guilty to possessing the weapon and explosives.
Mr Brooks will return to court on September 2.
The alleged controversy sent shockwaves through Tasmanian state parliament after Mr Brooks won the seat of Braddon for the Liberal Party in May.
He resigned just a day after the election when charged by Queensland Police.
