AN 85-year-old man has been charged with animal cruelty following an investigation by the RSPCA – but he is currently too unwell to face court.
Mt Stuart resident Dino De Beneditto faces two animal cruelty-related offences dating back to July 2017 in Glenorchy.
He was due to face the Hobart Magistrates Court on Wednesday for a mention hearing, but was absent.
Magistrate Chris Webster, who noted it was not the first time the octogenarian hadn’t shown up for court, was told Mr De Beneditto was “seemingly in hospital about to undergo an operation”.
Mr Webster vacated a hearing date set down for September 18, and adjourned Mr De Beneditto’s next court hearing until October 6 for mention.
