CHOPPER Read’s son Charlie will be arrested after failing to show up in court over allegations he assaulted a taxi driver and smashed up his window.
Charles Vincent Read, 21, has been charged with one count of common assault and one count of destroying property dating back to May 30 last year at Richmond.
According to court documents, police allege the Richmond resident unlawfully assaulted a taxi driver by grazing his right hand while smashing the front passenger of his taxi.
The documents also allege Mr Read unlawfully destroyed the driver’s property – the front passenger window and the rear passenger side tail-light area.
Mr Read did not appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Tuesday when he was called to enter a plea.
Magistrate Chris Webster issued a warrant for his arrest.
It was the second time Mr Read has failed to show up for court on these matters, missing an earlier hearing on December 11 last year.
Mr Read’s father, the late Mark “Chopper” Read, lived in Tasmania for several years during the 1990s until he returned to Melbourne in 2001.
The earless underworld figure died in 2013 at age 58 after a battle with liver cancer.
