POLICE have urged bushwalkers to adequately equip themselves after a 28-year-old Israeli woman was rescued from Frenchman’s Cap in the state’s South West overnight.

The woman contacted a friend via mobile phone after becoming disoriented while descending the mountain about 7.30pm.

Her friend contacted police who deployed the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Tasmania crew.

She was located near the summit of the mountain and was medically assessed, but was uninjured.

Inspector Steve Jones said the woman had been adequately prepared, but did not have her pack with her and was not properly equipped to remain in the elements overnight.

“Police would like to remind bushwalkers to adequately equip themselves for all walks,” he said.

“Should a walker become distressed, police should be contacted in the first instance

and phone battery power should be conserved.

“Downloading an Emergency App is a useful tool to provide police with reliable co-ordinates of a person’s location.”
