A PRISONER who allegedly escaped from custody at the Royal Hobart Hospital was recaptured within minutes, police say.
A 21-year-old man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a prison officer and
escaping custody around 5.15pm on Sunday afternoon.
In a statement issued on Sunday night police said multiple units responded and arrested the man nearby minutes later.
A prison officer received non-life threatening injuries during the incident.
The prisoner is expected to appear in court in Hobart on Monday.
Last August, a 12-day manhunt ensued when a prisoner fled accompanying police at the hospital.
