A YOUNG man has been charged with the shooting murder of prison hospital escapee Nicholas Aaron Scott.
The 20-year-old Granton resident remains in custody and will appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later time, Tasmania Police confirmed on Wednesday.
Nicholas Scott, 26, was found deceased by police at Granton in the early hours of Tuesday morning, after escaping prison guards at the Royal Hobart Hospital the night before.
His escape triggered a police manhunt after he fled the hospital about 10.50pm.
Police were called out to a report of firearms discharge on Black Snake Road about 1.30am the next morning, discovering Scott deceased outside a residence.
A 20-year-old man with non life-threatening head injuries was taken to hospital for treatment.
Scott was being treated at the hospital on Monday while serving a period of incarceration.
Upon his escape, police had sent out an alert to the community, explaining that “significant police resources” were searching for him, describing his physical appearance.
They advised the community not to interact with him, but to call police immediately.
On Tuesday following Scott’s death, Tasmania Police issued a call-out for a person who had loaned Scott their mobile phone outside Salamanca bar Jack Greene about 11.40pm on Monday night.
“If you were the person who allowed Nicholas to make a call, you’re not in any trouble but you may have important information we need,” police implored in a statement.
