Woman left with broken eye socket after car park fight

A woman is standing trial after pleading not guilty to an assault in a Devonport car park that left another woman with a broken eye socket.

ANIMOSITY between two Devonport women turned into carpark violence that left one with a broken eye socket, a jury in the Supreme Court trial in Burnie has heard.

Megan Jane Dehle has pleaded not guilty to assaulting Lauren Webb - the mother of her partner’s three children - in Fourways carpark in September, 2019.

While her defence said there was no issue with the assertion that a fight occurred, his client was acting in self defence and the alleged victim had been looking for a fight that day.

The Crown accuses Ms Dehle of grabbing Ms Webb by the throat as she went to get out of her car and repeatedly punching her to the face.

Ms Webb claims she had stopped in the carpark because her teenage daughter, who was in the car with her that day, had spotted her father and wanted to talk to him.

CCTV footage of the incident shown to the jury shows a fight breaking out within minutes of Ms Webb’s car pulling up but not exactly how it started.

When Ms Webb’s daughter intervened the violence was over and Ms Webb drove away.

The jury was told Ms Webb went to the hospital with severe swelling to her face and a fractured eye socket.

Under cross-examination, Ms Webb denied she had gone to the carpark that day to confront the accused - who has a business at the Fourways shopping precinct.

“You had been making threats to her via the father of your children such as that you would run her off the road. You pulled into the back of Ms Dehle’s business to have it out,” defence counsel Paul Sullivan suggested.

“I do not agree with that statement,” Ms Webb said.
