A multi-vehicle smash on the Brooker Highway near New Town has brought peak-hour traffic to a standstill, with police and emergency services rushing to the scene.

Tasmania Police put out an alert shortly before 5pm on Wednesday after the crash near the hockey fields at New Town, and say multiple vehicles were involved in the collision.

One lane is blocked. Police have not indicated whether it is a south or north-bound lane.

Significant delays are expected until the scene is cleared.

No injuries have been reported.

Alleged $300k crime spree lands man in court on 38 charges

EARLIER: An East Devonport man has been slapped with 38 charges after allegedly going on a $300,000 crime spree, accused of stealing vans, trucks, excavators and white goods.

The 35-year-old was arrested by police on Tuesday after allegedly ransacking an Acacia Hills property in the Kentish area in the state’s north west.

Police will allege the goods were stolen in a 72-hour window before he was arrested.

Police have charged the man with two counts of burglary, eight counts of stealing, fourteen counts of breach of bail conditions, seven counts of drive while disqualified, two counts of trespassing (land), one count of selling a controlled drug, one count of selling a controlled plant or its product, one count of use of a controlled drug and one count of resisting a police officer.

He was detained in custody and is expected to face Devonport Magistrates Court later today.

Ute found after police station ramming

April 18: Authorities have located the car they believe was driven through the front doors of an Eastern Shore police station as they launch a manhunt to track down the driver.

Just hours after the Clarence Plains Police Station was “deliberately” driven into at 5.30am on Tuesday, officers found a white Ford Courier ute in Clarendon Vale which police indicated was the vehicle driven into the station.

Photos from police show the battered ute was found without plates.

Investigations are ongoing to identify and locate the driver of the vehicle.

‘Extensive damage’: Investigation after Cop shop ‘deliberately’ driven into

Earlier: Tasmania Police have launched an investigation to track down the offenders they believe are responsible for “deliberately” driving into a station, causing “extensive damage”.

At 5.30am on Tuesday, a car smashed through the front doors of Clarence Plains Police Station on Hobart’s Eastern Shore.

Police say the front doors to the public enquiry office were “extensively damaged.”

No police officers were in the station at the time the incident occurred.

Nobody entered the main offices and nothing was stolen or attempted to be removed.

A spokesperson from Tasmania Police said there were no CCTV cameras at the station, despite it being a stone’s throw from the Tasmania Police Academy.

Police are continuing with their investigation and are appealing to the public to come forward with any information that may assist in identifying who may be responsible.
