A Tasmanian man alleged to have sexually abused his young stepdaughter for four years has appeared in court following his extradition from Broome, Western Australia.

The 49-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his nine-year-old stepdaughter, who was allegedly abused between 2013–17, made no application for bail when he appeared in Launceston Magistrates Court on Monday.

Legal Aid solicitor Andrew Lonergan successfully applied to adjourn the defendant’s matters to August 27 at 9.15am, where the defendant will appear via videolink.

The defendant has been charged with multiple offences including maintaining a sexual relationship with a child and computer-related fraud, ABC Kimberley previously reported.

ABC Kimberley also reported local detectives discovered last month the defendant had been living in Broome, where he had been based for about 18 months.

The defendant was originally set to face the Tasmanian courts in August 2019 before allegedly skipping bail.
