Shots fired from vehicle in Glenorchy

June 28, 10:45am: Police believe a man was shot at from a vehicle in Glenorchy on Thursday night, leading to the arrests of three men.

Authorities received reports of the incident about 10:30pm, but by the time police arrived at the scene, the victim, who could be injured, was no where to be seen.

“Initial investigations indicate a person may have been injured before leaving the area on a scooter,” a Tasmania Police spokesperson said.

“While the alleged victim has not been located, police believe the people involved in the matter are known to each other, and that this incident was targeted.”

Policed searched the Glenorchy area about 4am and three men were taken into custody.

‘Not from a firearm’: Police investigate concerning reports

June 26: Police are investigating several reports of projectiles being discharged in Southern Tasmania over the past day.

Officers suspect the item being thrown to be ball bearings with reports of it being discharged towards one vehicle and six houses on Wednesday, and two discharged on Tuesday.

Police say no injuries have been sustained.

“Police wish to reassure the community that these discharges have not been from a firearm, however, understandably this is concerning to police and the community,” said Inspector Brett Berry.

“Our police investigations are following a specific line of inquiry in relation to these incidents.

“If anyone has information or dashcam that would assist our investigation, I ask them to come forward.”

Overboard kayaker rescued by Tassal workers

June 27: On Tuesday afternoon, a 48-year-old kayaker was rescued by Tassal workers after about half an hour of struggling having went overboard at Snug Beach.

Police say it was lucky the man was wearing a life jacket and that Tassal had a vessel in the immediate area.

The kayaker was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Royal Hobart Hospital where he reportedly remains in a stable condition.

Police thanked those who assisted the rescue and reminded the public of the importance of marine safety.
