An Ulverstone man who has admitted he killed a young Queensland mother will soon be sentenced for murder.

Colin William Drake, 37, will be brought in person to the Supreme Court of Tasmania in Hobart for a sentencing hearing on November 15 – more than two years after he murdered Gabrielle Marshall, 23.

Ms Marshall was found stabbed to death in her friend’s house on Main Street, Ulverstone, on June 15, 2021.

Ms Marshall’s friend has not been accused of any wrongdoing.

Drake initially entered a plea of not guilty to murder in July that year, but changed his plea to guilty last month.

Ms Marshall, the mother of a young daughter, had only been in Tasmania for a few weeks before her death.

She had recently moved to Ulverstone, looking for a fresh start from Queensland.

On Monday, Justice Tamara Jago remanded Drake in custody until next month’s sentencing hearing.

She directed that he be brought to court in person.
