A Tasmanian council worker with an 11-year career in local government pleaded guilty to possessing child abuse material.
Peter Anthony Denholm, 46, of St Leonards, appeared in Launceston Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
The AFP charged Denholm on July 12, 2023, following an investigation by the Tasmanian Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (JACET).
Defence lawyer Patrick O’Halloran appeared on behalf of Denholm, who pleaded guilty to one count of possessing child abuse material obtained or accessed using a carriage service.
Denholm is currently employed with Meander Valley Council in Tasmania’s north as its Team Leader of facilities and was previously the City of Launceston’s Team Leader of Regulations Services and Deputy Municipal Co-ordinator.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Denholm also managed the Northern Regional Emergency Coordination Centre.
Magistrate Simon Brown ordered Denholm to appear at the Supreme Court of Launceston for sentencing on April 22 at 10.15am.
