Paul Shaw: David Jenkins’ alleged murderer enters plea

The third and final defendant charged with the stabbing death of a northern Tasmanian father last October has entered a plea on the charge of murder.

George Town man Paul William Shaw, 32, appeared via videolink in Launceston Magistrates Court on Tuesday, where he entered a plea of not guilty. He will reappear on March 7 for preliminary proceedings.

Paul, alongside Patrick Kenneth Dolbey, 37, and Luke Anthony Shaw, 30, both also from George Town, are charged with the murder of Mount Direction father-of-two David Jenkins, 34.

Mr Jenkins was discovered with multiple stab wounds on George Town’s Lambert St about 8.30pm on October 22. He was unable to be saved despite treatment at the scene.

Paul Shaw and Mr Dolbey were arrested in the hours after Mr Jenkins was discovered. Luke Shaw was arrested the following afternoon, just minutes before attempting to board a flight to the mainland.

West Launceston duo Belinda Jayne Cox, 50, and Brett James Dilger, 58, have both been charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder in relation to Luke Shaw’s attempt to board the flight.

Both Mr Dolbey and Luke Shaw have previously pleaded not guilty to Mr Jenkins’ murder.

Mr Dolbey and Luke Shaw will be back before the court on February 7 for. preliminary proceedings.

Ms Cox and Mr Dilger have both pleaded not guilty to the charge of being an accessory after the fact to murder.

Ms Cox has been committed to the Supreme Court and will appear on January 30. Mr Dilger remains before the Magistrates Court and will appear on February 7 for preliminary proceedings.
