Update: Music fans and the community have shown amazing generosity to support well-known Tasmanian punk rock frontman Tyler Richardson, who has just found out his one-year-old son Harris has cancer.

A fund set up to support Richardson, his wife Alix and little Harris has raised more than $110,000 in less than 24 hours, smashing a target of $60,000.

The money will help the family as Harris travels to Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital for treatment.

Richardson will also be unable to work for an extended period.

Earlier: Tasmanian punk rock frontman Tyler Richardson is about to face the battle of his life, with the shock news his baby son has been diagnosed with cancer.

Richardson, the lead vocalist and bassist of Luca Brasi, is about move to Melbourne with his wife Alix and one-year-old son Harris, who was diagnosed last week “out of the blue”.

In just four hours on Sunday, a GoFundMe page raised more $67,000 for the family from almost 700 individual donations, given the couple will be unable to work for up to a year while Harris is treated at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.

Luca Brasi rhythm guitarist and vocalist Patrick Marshall, who has set up the fundraiser, said the family would be moving interstate “immediately”.

“Just last week Tyler and Alix’s life was turned upside down,” he said on the GoFundMe page.

“Tyler and Alix will be unable to work for the next six to 12 months, adding a financial strain to what is already a super stressful time for them. We would like to help them as much as we possibly can, and this is one way in which we can all help them.

“We would like to raise enough money to help cover their mortgage while they are away and any unforeseen costs that may arise.”

Mr Marshall added the band knew the Richardson family “would do anything for us, so now it is our turn to return the favour”.

Luca Brasi, named after the character from the Godfather, hails from St Helens and has since become a major success with ARIA nominations and songs reaching the Triple J hottest 100.

The band’s Facebook and Instagram pages, plus the GoFundMe page, were inundated with scores of well-wishes from fans on Sunday.

The now Hobart-based band is known for its efforts raising funds for special causes, like the New South Wales flood appeals, and Richardson recently became a Lifeline ambassador for mental health.
