A NEW South Wales man will stand trial in Hobart after pleading not guilty to running a major drug syndicate smuggling millions of dollars worth of ice, cocaine and heroin into Tasmania.

On Friday in the Hobart Magistrates Court, jewellery maker Jean Michel Christophe Wimmer pleaded not guilty to a singular charge of trafficking in a controlled substance between May 2019 and May 2021.

The 37-year-old was remanded in custody by Magistrate Jackie Hartnett, and did not apply for bail.

He will appear in the Supreme Court of Tasmania on September 5 for a directions hearing ahead of trial.

Mr Wimmer was extradited to Tasmania in April after he was arrested at Parramatta in March.

NSW Police at the time claimed the drug ring had been worth nearly $5 million, which they alleged Mr Wimmer ran from his western Sydney home.

As part of the investigation, police seized three Ferraris, a Lamborghini and a gold-plated Harley-Davidson, as well as cash.

The investigation, led by Tasmania Police’s Crime and Intelligence Command and supported by the Australian Federal Police National Anti-Gangs Squad and the NSW Police Force’s Criminal Groups Squad, ran over seven months since August last year, with more than 25 investigators across both states.
