A man accused of murdering a Hobart midwife on Christmas Day has not yet entered a plea in court.

THE man allegedly responsible for the Christmas Day murder of beloved Hobart midwife Rachel Wake has still not entered a plea in court.

On Wednesday, Darren Mark Wake, 61, again appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court via video link, but no plea was entered to the singular charge.

Ms Wake, 52, died on December 25 last year at the Royal Hobart Hospital after an alleged stabbing incident at Mornington earlier the same day.

Mr Wake’s lawyer said his defence team was waiting on a report, which hadn’t yet been obtained.

Magistrate Michael Daly asked what the relevance of the report was to the stage of proceedings, noting the case needed to be moved on to the Supreme Court of Tasmania.

“This court has no jurisdiction other than a purely administrative one,” he said.

“So unless this is going to be relevant to whether you plead guilty or not, I wonder why this matter remains in this court until you obtain that report.”

He adjourned the matter to June 20.

The death of Ms Wake, the mother of two teenage children, shook the Hobart community in December.

Her alleged murder led to an outpouring of emotions and tributes via social media from women she’d helped as a nurse and midwife.
