A 13-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after an alleged stabbing incident at Harris Scarfe at Moonah.

Police said he also would face charges of aggravated armed robbery and assault after an employee at the store about midday on Friday.

An employee is in a critical condition in the Royal Hobart Hospital after being stabbed.

A second youth aged 15 has been charged with aggravated armed robbery and assault arising from the same incident.

The two boys are due to appear in court on Saturday.

Police said the victim remained in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

A police spokesperson said police were aware that a video depicting the incident was circulating on social media.

“Media and members of the public are urged not to publish the video which identifies minors who are the subject of legal proceedings,” the spokesperson said.

“Whilst Tasmania Police have interviewed several witnesses regarding the incident, anyone with information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

Bridgewater stabbing

There’s been another wounding incident in southern Tasmania.

Police say a 32-year-old female victim sustained injuries to her face and arms during an altercation with another woman in Farrow Place, Bridgewater about 5pm.

The victim was treated at the scene by Ambulance Tasmania.

Police say they arrested a 50-year-old female at the scene “without incident” and she was subsequently charged with wounding.

They said the two women will face the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.

“The victim and offender were known to each other and there is further no risk to the public,” a police spokesperson said.

Employee critical after shoplifting turns deadly

Earlier: Two youths have been arrested by police after a stabbing at Harris Scarfe Moonah Friday afternoon that left a man in a critical condition.

Tasmania Police were called to Harris Scarfe in Moonah on Main St shortly before 1pm.

“During the incident a man received a stab wound to the abdomen. He was transported to the

Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical but stable condition,” a police spokesperson said.

Another person was given medical treatment at the scene for a minor injury.

A sign on the front door of the shop advised customers that Harris Scarfe would be closed for the rest of the day, with a crime scene declared at the scene.

The youths were arrested in Lutana around 1.45pm after a search of two houses by Tasmania police officers and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

Detective Senior Sergeant Darren Latham said it was his understanding that staff within the store confronted the two male youths.

“As a result of them being confronted by the staff, it appears to have then escalated outside the store and that’s when the stabbing occurred,” Det Snr Sgt Latham said.

“Very disturbing for the public to see and witness that.

“I think for the people in the store, the customers and the staff, it’s been very unsettling for them. And the fact that people are doing this is very, very concerning.

“All I can say is that we respond as best we can and put these people before the court.”

Police said the investigation was still in its early stages and that they were working through how the stabbing has occurred.

Mr Latham said police were continuing to interview witnesses as they continued to investigate the incident.

Anyone with information who hasn’t already spoken to police is asked to contact Glenorchy CIB on 131 444 or report to crimestopperstas.com.au
