A teenage thug from Tasmania’s north bashed a woman by pulling her hair, punching her in the face and placing her in a headlock, before subjecting her to a campaign of vile abuse via telephone from behind bars, calling her a “junkie slut”, a “dirty mutt” and threatening to “gutter stomp” her face.

South Launceston man Lonewolf Brent Shayne Mansell, 19, previously pleaded guilty in Launceston Magistrates Court to a staggering 103 offences.

They included three charges of common assault, nine of burglary, five of stealing, a variety of other property-related offences, firearms offences, unlawfully setting fire to property, and dozens of offences of breaching a variety of court orders.

Mansell’s spree of offending occurred last year until his remand in custody on July 26, where he remained until December 23, and again until he was remanded a second time on January 18.

On March 30 last year at Invermay, CCTV captured Mansell assaulting a woman by pulling her hair, punching her in the face and placing her in a headlock, the court heard.

A month later, on April 21, Mansell assaulted the woman again by punching and kicking her after following his victim while he was in company with a co-offender.

The assault was “vicious”, the court heard, but left no lasting injuries.

After his remand in custody, Mansell, despite being warned phone calls from prison were recorded, subjected his victim to a vile campaign of abuse.

He variously called her a “stupid little mutt”, a “junkie slut”, a “filthy f****** dog”, a “dirty mutt”, and threatened to “gutter stomp your filthy face in”.

Magistrate Sharon Cure described the abuse as “appalling and vile”.

After his release, Mansell assaulted a second woman on January 16 at Waverley by choking her and pushing her to the ground.

He also damaged her property.

“He is a very high risk of reoffending,” Ms Cure said.

“I am required to still focus on rehabilitation and hope he takes the opportunities he is given.

“But I don’t have much optimism.”

Businesses targeted by Mansell’s burglaries included Village Family Motor Inn and City Park Radio, the court heard.

Ms Cure sentenced Mansell to 14 months’ imprisonment, six of which were suspended for an operational period of two years conditional on Mansell completing a 12-month Community Correction Order.

With time served, Mansell will be released from custody in about six weeks.
