A 30-year-old sparky who plunged $350k into a popular residential Christmas lights display in Launceston has fronted court after allegedly dazzling road users – this time with full-beam headlights.

George Maxwell Tregaskis Jago, also known as Max Jago, of Newnham, appeared in the Launceston Magistrates Court on Friday and pleaded not guilty to blinding road users with lights fitted to his car.

The court heard the alleged incident took place on April 15, 2022, on Brisbane Street, Launceston.

Under Tasmanian law, a driver must not use, or allow to be used, any light fitted to or in the driver’s vehicle to dazzle, or in a way that is likely to dazzle, another road user.

This means drivers are not permitted to use their high beam within 200m of another vehicle.

Magistrate Ken Stanton adjourned the matter for hearing on September 23 at the Launceston Magistrates Court.
