A Kingston man will front court after he allegedly bashed a 25-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy at a Huon Valley pub, leaving the older man with serious head injuries.
The alleged offender, 21, was charged after the altercation at a licensed premises in the Huon Valley.
Police will allege the brawl took place outside the venue, with a 25-year-old Glen Huon man sustaining “serious, but not life-threatening” head injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
It will be further alleged that a 15-year-old boy was also assaulted in the incident.
The accused was bailed to appear in Hobart Magistrates Court on August 21.
Kingston Police Inspector Colin Riley said the incident was a “stark reminder of the severe consequences that can arise from alcohol-fuelled violence”.
Head injuries sustained during such altercations can lead to life-altering consequences for the victims,” Insp Riley said.
In addition to the alleged bashing, three people were fined in relation to supplying the 15-year-old with alcohol.
An adult friend of the youth received a $190 infringement notice, while a staff member at the premises was fined $970. The venue’s licensee was fined $2923.
“It is extremely disheartening that the staff of a licensed establishment would disregard their obligation to enforce age restrictions and provide alcohol to a person so young. We expect a higher standard of responsibility from those involved in the service of alcohol,” Insp Riley said.
