Kane Dallow found after extensive air, ground search

Alleged conman Kane Dallow has been found and is in hospital under observation, police say.

Mr Dallow was reported missing on Monday when his car was found abandoned at Poatina in the rugged Central Highlands of Tasmania at 7pm.

An extensive search was carried out by police to try and locate Mr Dallow, where officers deployed drones and use of both ground and helicopter patrols.

Police say they are investigating the circumstances of Mr Dallow’s disappearance.

No sign: Call for information in search for missing alleged conman

August 30: Police have called on the community to come forward with any information they have in the hopes of finding missing alleged conman Kane Dallow.

Mr Dallow was reported missing on Monday, when his vacant car was found at Poatina at about 7pm.

Detective Acting Inspector Andrew Hanson said Mr Dallow had last been in contact with his family shortly after 4.30pm on that day.

“Police searched the area that evening using drones, and extensive ground and air searches continued the next morning, utilising Tasmania Police search and rescue personnel and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter,” Detective Acting Inspector Hanson said.

Despite the efforts of police, Mr Dallow has not yet been found.

“Unfortunately we have not been able to locate any sign of Mr Dallow at this stage, and we’re calling for anyone who may have seen his car – a yellow BMW, registration E01YH – driving between Longford and Poatina, to contact us.”

Mr Dallow was last seen wearing camel coloured pants, a grey Carharrt hoodie and grey Vans sneakers.

August 29, 2023 - Kane Scott Dallow: Police concern for welfare after Poatina vehicle discovery

Tasmania Police hold urgent welfare concerns for alleged conman Kane Scott Dallow, whose unattended vehicle was discovered in a rural location on Monday evening.

According to police, Mr Dallow, whose last known residential address was Legana, was last seen just before 3.30pm in Launceston’s CBD on Monday.

They put out a concern for welfare notice just before 10.30pm that evening after his unattended vehicle was discovered at Poatina by a family member, who alerted police.

Mr Dallow was last seen wearing camel colour pants, a grey Carhartt hoodie and grey Vans sneakers.

Police confirmed again on Monday afternoon that there had been no further update on the search for Mr Dallow.

Mr Dallow is currently facing 24 charges in the Launceston Supreme Court related to fraud and dishonesty type offending.

He has pleaded not guilty across all matters and was next due for a case management hearing on September 8. No trial has been listed.

The offences are alleged by the Crown to have occurred between May 28, 2018 and March 24, 2021.

The Crown alleges Mr Dallow stole the identities of four people, between May 28, 2018 and April 15, 2019, and used them to apply for a series of credit cards and loans, the Mercury previously reported.

Other offences Mr Dallow is charged with include allegedly forging a NAB Launceston bank certificate and presenting it to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority and perverting justice by falsifying an affidavit in order to “dissuade a judge from making an order for an interlocutory injunction” in advance of a scheduled hearing.

Friends of Mr Dallow’s took to social media to urge the public to come forward with information.

“Come home Kane,” said one.

“Please share, any information would be appreciated greatly,” said another.

Poatina, 60km southwest of Launceston, is an isolated rural location situated within the Great Western Tiers mountain range.
