Independent Braddon MP Craig Garland has appeared in court after he failed a police roadside drug test in 2024.
Mr Garland represented himself in court on Monday where he asked for an adjournment.
He is facing one count of Drive a motor vehicle whilst a prescribed illicit drug is present in oral fluid.
In November, Mr Garland was pulled over in Smithton as part of a police blitz.
He failed an initial police roadside drug test and was found in possession of a small amount of cannabis, he told the Mercury.
The possession of a controlled drug carried a potential maximum penalty of just over $10,000 or two years in jail under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Mr Garland was elected in the seat of Braddon as an independent at the March state election.
He is one of five independent MPs in the House of Assembly.
On Monday the matter was adjourned and Mr Garland was bailed to appear in the Burnie Magistrates court on June 26.
