A HOBART man has confessed to orally raping his infant son to make a video for other paedophiles on the internet.
The man, whose identity cannot be revealed for legal reasons, has also now pleaded guilty to a raft of other child exploitation material offences after he was raided as part of a massive, Australia-wide child abuse bust.
On Monday, he appeared in the Supreme Court of Tasmania, weeping in the docks as he pleaded guilty to the rape, which he committed in January this year, before distributing the video he made of the horrific act to another man via the private messaging app, Wickr.
He also pleaded guilty to the indecent assault of the same four-month old boy for the purposes of creating four child exploitation images.
Crown prosecutor Lisa Pennington read out the depraved conversations the man had been having on the internet, on apps such as Telegram, Instagram and Wickr – with much of the content too explicit for publication.
“Keen as on some young fun,” the man said.
“My son is born tomorrow. Been perving when I take my daughter to swimming lessons.
“So many hot little ones.”
When other men sent him child exploitation material, which Ms Pennington said likely included the most serious category of depravity – including children clearly in distress as they were being abused – the man responded with phrases like “hot” and “holy shit”.
When one man told him he wanted to rape young boys overseas, the Hobart man replied “f … yeah”.
Before making the video of him raping his son, he wrote to another man: “want to see me and my boy?”
The baby’s mother read out a victim impact statement to the court, saying she was “profoundly stunned, continually in disbelief and completely heartbroken”.
She said her life had turned into a “horror movie” the moment she discovered the man she’d been in love with for years was in fact a paedophile who had been communicating with other paedophiles on the internet.
“Then I was told the worst of the worst had happened,” she said.
“He had raped our son.
“I know I’ll never recover, this will always remain the darkest time in my life.
“The violation and betrayal is unforgivable.”
She said she’d forced herself to attend court on account of her children.
Justice Helen Wood thanked the woman for her “particularly compelling statement”.
“The court is grateful for it. It is absolutely vital that the court has foremost in its mind the profound effect of this conduct on the child, on the family, on the whole community,” she said.
Defence lawyer Andrei Slicer said the matter had been “cataclysmic” for everyone involved, and that the man was deeply remorseful and apologetic.
He said the man had created a “fictitious person” online, but that he’d “slipped out of his depth in terms of the chats”.
The man has pleaded guilty to rape, indecent assault, possessing, accessing, producing and distributing child exploitation material, and possessing bestiality material.
Justice Wood will sentence the man on November 10.
