A HOBART man has not yet entered a plea to drug manufacturing and trafficking charges after he was raided at Sandy Bay, with police alleging they found more than 11,000 MDMA pills with a street value of $400,000.

Benjamin Angus Shield, 47, faced the Hobart Magistrates Court on Thursday after the Tasmania Police search warrant was executed the day before.

Mr Shield has been charged with a number of offences between September and December 21 this year, including trafficking in a controlled substance, manufacturing a controlled drug for sale, possessing a controlled plant or its products, possessing a thing used for the administration of a controlled drug, and destroying property.

In a statement, Tasmania Police described the quantity of drugs and drug manufacturing equipment seized as “significant”.

It said Mr Shield was arrested and detained after the search by members of Hobart Uniform police.

Tasmania Police released images of the alleged drug haul on Thursday, depicting what appears to be thousands of brightly-coloured pills in plastic bags.

Mr Shield will return to court on January 6.
