A member of the Elphinstone family has pleaded not guilty to nine charges of interfering with an Aboriginal relic.
Triabunna resident Graeme Elphinstone – a managing director of the prominent Elphinstone Engineering company – entered a plea of not guilty to the charges when he appeared in Hobart Magistrates Court on Thursday.
The court heard the charges related to a trench that was dug on a property at Little Swanport between January 1, 2023 and January 31, 2023.
Mr Elphinstone was charged in June this year.
The charges relate to section 14 (1b) of Aboriginal Heritage Act – the protection of relics.
Mr Elphinstone was self-represented in court and pleaded not guilty to all nine counts. He told Magistrate Reg Marron he wanted the matters dealt with quickly.
Mr Elphinstone is set to return to court on November 14.
