A 64-year-old Southern Tasmanian man has felt the full force of the law after a controlled sting saw him slapped with a string of charges relating to trafficking guns and drugs.

The police operation, targeting the man’s property and surrounding bushland at Dromedary in Tasmania’s South.

Officers from the Southern Drugs and Firearms Squad seized 1.7kg of cannabis, 3.7g of Methylamphetamine, seven firearms; including three stolen, ammunition, pharmaceutical glassware, cash and a large quantity of jewellery, believed to be stolen.

“The stolen firearms, large quantity of illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia posed a significant risk to the wider Tasmanian community,” Detective Acting Sergeant Storer said.

“We will continue to target and hold accountable those involved in the illicit drug and firearm trade.”

“I urge anyone with information about illegal firearms to come forward – your information can help police to remove these items from our streets.”

“For anyone that has an illegal or unregistered firearm, there is a permanent amnesty in Tasmania and unregistered or unwanted firearms can be handed in to police or licenced firearms dealers without any action being taken in relation to possession offences.”

The man is expected to face Hobart Magistrates Court on Friday.
