A Tasmanian man charged with murdering a 14-year-old girl has been directed to enter a plea on the next occasion he fronts court.

Scottsdale man Christopher Mark Jordan, 36, appeared in Launceston Magistrates Court on Wednesday for further mention of four charges, most seriously murdering Burnie teenager Shyanne-Lee Tatnell earlier this year.

In addition to murder, Mr Jordan is also charged with three additional offences stemming from a police search of his residence on May 16.

The charges are failing to comply with prescribed storage of ammunition requirements, possessing a controlled plant or its products (minor offence), and possessing a prohibited import.

Defence lawyer Hannah Goss, on instruction from Mr Jordan’s defence counsel Greg Richardson, told the court the defendant was unable to enter a plea as there is a “key piece of disclosure missing”.

“We’re unable to progress matters at this point in time,” she said.

The police prosecutor told the court there “shouldn’t be any issues” with disclosure moving ahead.

Magistrate Ken Stanton adjourned Mr Jordan’s matters to January 31, 2024 and directed the defendant to enter a plea on that occasion.

Family members of both Shyanne-Lee and Mr Jordan attended court to witness proceedings.

Those present included Shyanne-Lee’s mum Bobbi-Lee Ketchell and Mr Jordan’s father and sister.

Shyanne-Lee, who was from Burnie but relocated to Launceston to live in a youth shelter shortly before her disappearance, was last seen crossing the Henry St bridge heading towards Ravenswood just after 8.30pm on April 30.

Her remains were discovered in bushland at Nabowla, west of Scottsdale, on the evening of July 26.

Mr Jordan was arrested the following day and charged with the teen’s murder.
