A young northern Tasmanian man who previously pleaded guilty to biting a woman’s face in her own bedroom, drawing blood, has been locked up pending sentence after committing further grog-fuelled offending.
Invermay man Brandon Daniel Chris Gallagher, 23, was remanded in pre-sentence custody on August 11 after a spate of offending the defendant pleaded guilty to on Friday in the Launceston Magistrates Court.
On that day, Gallagher destroyed property — a window pane — at Invermay; threatened a police officer by saying he would “headbutt, kick and shoot them”; resisted police by “thrashing (his) body and trying to pull away from them”; and breaching his bail conditions.
Gallagher previously pleaded guilty to eight offences committed at West Ulverstone, Launceston and Kings Meadows.
On December 18 last year at an address at Kings Meadows, Gallagher and his victim were consuming alcohol together when the woman went to bed about 12.30am, the court previously heard.
Gallagher went into her room and began arguing with the woman before grappling with her in bed.
She “attempted to push him off”, at which point he bit her on the forehead, causing “extensive bleeding”, the court was told.
The woman was then knocked to the floor, where Gallagher “attempted to strangle” her by using his forearm and wrist to punch and apply force to her neck, leaving her “unable to breathe” and on the verge of passing out.
Further offences involving destroying property, failure to comply with a direction, and abusing and threatening police, were committed at West Ulverstone on July 26 last year.
The court previously heard Gallagher became “aggressive” when he consumed alcohol.
All of Gallagher’s matters were adjourned to October 28.
Additional matters to which Gallagher has pleaded not guilty – driving unlicensed and under the influence of liquor, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to stay within a marked lane – will be heard on that day.
