TASMANIANS have been advised to take extra caution on state roads on Monday as wet and windy conditions continue to hit the state.

Tasmania Police has issued 14 road condition warnings statewide due to snow or ice, including part of the Lyell Hwy at Wayatinah and Cradle Mountain Rd in the state’s North.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning across parts of Central Tasmania and the state’s Mid-West.

Bureau forecaster Matthew Thomas said a cold front was due to pass across the state’s South today and bring with it increased showers and winds.

He said increasing snowfall was also expected to hit the state between Wednesday and Friday.

The Department of State Growth has issued a reminder to motorists to leave earlier and to take extra caution on state roads while a number of roadworks are underway.

“Motorists are reminded to slow down and comply with the posted speed limits in all roadwork sites,” a Department spokeswoman said.

“When travelling between Hobart and Launceston along the Midland Highway motorists will be travelling through several road work sites. Please allow an extra 45 minutes for your journey if travelling the full length of the Highway.”

The need to reduce the speed may not be obvious, but reduced speed limits are for your safety and the safety of road workers.
