FIRE crews have rescued a woman from a burning home at Mayfield in Tasmania’s north in the early hours of this morning.
In a statement shortly before 6.30am, the Tasmania Fire Service said the Launceston Fire Brigade was called to the Lawson St blaze at 2.41am, and found the home “fully involved in fire” on arrival.
The TFS said crews were hampered by intense flames, fallen power lines, and collapsing roof tiles, but firefighters wearing breathing apparatus located then rescued one woman from the home via the bedroom window.
The woman was treated at the scene then taken to the Launceston General Hospital. Her condition has been reported as stable.
Four crews — comprising 16 firefighters — from Launceston and Rocherlea Fire Brigade attended the blaze, and no injuries were sustained by crews.
The TFS said damage is estimated at $250,000, and investigations will continue throughout the morning to determine the fire’s cause.
